Union Square Yoga and Bhakti Yoga Beirut host three hours of soul-stirring kirtan lead by world-renowned kirtan leader BB Govinda Swami and his band – Akinchana Krishna, Ananda Murti, and Yogindra.

Kirtan is an experience like no other. It combines sacred mantra, or spiritual words with vibrant, joyous music that lifts the soul and energizes the body. Its beauty lies in its simplicity. One leader sings the mantra, accompanied by a few instruments. After each line, the group – however large or small, respond with the same line. This call and response continues as the kirtan slowly unfolds.

Though the kirtan tradition originated in ancient India, it is no less relevant to our modern times. With the increasing demands of the average working life, kirtan is perhaps even more beneficial than ever.

In kirtan, there are no rules – you can sit or stand, or better yet, dance! You can clap or play instruments, and sing to your heart’s content. The only thing necessary is an open heart, open mind, and open ears.

Bhakti Bhringa Govinda Swami is a monk in the Vaishnava tradition for the past 45 years, a tireless traveler and a gifted musician. Since childhood, he has been immersed in the world of music. As his father was a music producer, many well-known musicians frequented his home, including Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash.

He always tries to combine modern sounds with the music of the soul. As he explains, the soul is the source of all music; kirtan (or devotional chanting) is a wonderful combination of music and words that reflect not only our emotions, but also the rhythms of the universe.

BB Govinda Swami and his band can be seen in crowded concert halls all over the world, including famous open-air events such as Woodstock in Poland, and at symphony concerts with philharmonic orchestras in Russia, South Africa, Ukraine. Currently, he maintains a busy schedule traveling to India and around the world conducting concerts, lectures, charity events, and helping people to discover the beauty of the heart.

Bhakti Yoga Beirut is hosting him and his band in Lebanon for the second time.
